When your business is growing, but you’d like it to grow more rapidly, what do you do?


We spoke to BizSmart client and Director at Insightconxs, Adrian Hughes, and found out more about what led him and his fellow director to BizSmart, and the changes they’ve made since working with both us and Worcestershire Business Central…


The Company


Insightconxs is a company that has grown steadily over the last couple of years. Managing Director Anthony Gander and Director Adrian Hughes have built a brand that is now recognised in the Worcestershire area.


By providing cloud-based and hosted IT and telephony and mobile solutions – plus superfast broadband – they’re making life easier and reducing costs for both new and established businesses.


As companies move from traditional services to cloud-based technology, Insightconxs can provide everything they need to make the switch.


The company offers its customers a whole range of IT services, including support, consultancy and installation right through to networking, new servers, PCs, laptops and software. The business is also a Sage Accredited Business Partner.



The Challenge


Insightconxs has a solid base of loyal customers and has been growing steadily. But the rate of growth has been slower than they would like. The company directors are aware that they could accelerate their growth with the right marketing and investment in place. Ultimately they need more staff, and time to train them, in order to realise their vision to grow the business.



The Solution


Joining the Chamber of Commerce resulted in the directors being introduced to Worcestershire Business Central and to BizSmart, and this gave them the means to construct a marketing plan. Once this was in place, as part of the Business Accelerator programme, Insightconxs applied for grant funding and were successful.


The grant funding enabled them to:


  • Join a SmartBoard and regularly meet with a BizSmart core advisor and a group of focused business owners to get feedback and help solve challenges in their business
  • Employ two new apprentices, allowing time to train them ahead of the marketing plan bringing in more clients
  • Engage an external marketing company and create a new website
  • Purchase additional equipment to help improve product demonstrations to clients


On top of the above, Adrian also attends BizSmart’s Scale Up Club on the second Tuesday of each month. Explaining what the business gets out of it, he told us, “It’s a way to focus on how to create more business opportunities. One month you could be discussing how to manage cash better, and the next month you could be looking at a strategy for growth.”



The future


Insightconxs will continue to execute on their marketing plan and grow their business. Adrian explained, “With the products we have and the way in which we support customers, our business is very scalable. I know if I’ve got x customers, I need x number of staff. So we’ll take on more staff as we acquire more customers.”



The last word


Adrian recommends both Worcestershire Business Central and BizSmart to other businesses. As he puts it, “You don’t know what you don’t know. If I hadn’t joined the Chamber I wouldn’t have known about Business Central and I wouldn’t have known about BizSmart or the grant funding available to us.”


“BizSmart helps business owners make sure they’ve got the right processes and tools in place to manage their business. And Scale Up Club and the SmartBoard are both very beneficial. Most business owners probably already know some of what they’re told when they attend these kinds of groups, but you’re looking for that one golden nugget that’s going to help you. That’s what these groups deliver for us.”
