Banking has always been a part of Ian Priest’s life. Given the option of banking, accountancy or street sweeping upon leaving school; he went into banking.
However, it took him 31 years before he decided to leave working for the big banks, and to go out on his own and join the Independent Banking Consultancy back in 2011.
In this episode of ScaleUp Radio, Kevin Brent talks to Ian Priest from the Independent Banking Consultancy.
Ian has got incredible banking experience through his many years in the industry, and it was fascinating to hear about that transition from working for a big company, to owning a franchise.
In this episode, we’ll cover Ian’s thoughts on:
- How to make the decision between a franchise and starting from scratch
- Ways to utilise power of the group of a franchise, which you might not have as a one man business
- If you’ve built up a business as part of a franchise, is there anything there that you can sell on?
- What goes into the decision as to whether to take on employees
This is a fascinating look at what it means to have your own identity as part of a franchise, which Ian has carved out for himself very well. It’s a worthwhile listen if you’ve ever thought about buying into a franchise yourself – or creating one for others to buy into.
